HP Offers HP ePrint for BlackBerry Smartphones

May 2010

Announced last week, the HP ePrint application is based on HP CloudPrint technology and allows for mobile printing anytime, anywhere from BlackBerry smartphones.

As a result of the HP and RIM strategic alliance announced last year, the solution enables companies to add printing from BlackBerry smartphones to their cloud computing capabilities. HP ePrint enables users to print presentations, reports, emails, travel documents and more to a company's networked printers, or to certain public print locations.

First, users click the application's Print button on their BlackBerry smartphone after selecting the email or attachment to print.

Second, they search for and choose a Printspot(TM) location -- similar to a simple web search -- and click to select.

Third, users confirm the printer and the document to be printed, and then click Print to send the job to the printer. A release code is emailed and users enter the code on the keypad attached to the selected printer to release the print job.

Victor Garcia, chief technology officer, Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. "HP is committed to empowering users to capitalize on business opportunities wherever they may occur, and this joint effort with RIM will help companies boost employee productivity, which in turn can reduce costs and enhance customer service."

Businesses in the hospitality and retail industries, such as hotels, print and copy retail stores, and airport lounges, can easily incorporate HP ePrint mobile printing into the list of services they provide to increase customer preference and improve brand awareness. As the mobile workforce grows, businesses can use public print locations to help ensure they have the solutions they need to be successful while away from the office.

"HP ePrint for BlackBerry smartphones provides an incredibly valuable capability for mobile workers, allowing them to print documents such as contracts, invoices, presentations and spreadsheets on the spot," said Jeff McDowell, senior vice president, Business Marketing and Alliances, Research In Motion. "It allows them to be more responsive to their business partners and customers, and be more productive while away from their desks or outside the office."
